| Preschool
The Preschool Department offers an accredited five-day program for 3 and 4 year olds. These are full day classes (8:15 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.) with afterschool care available.
The Preschool curriculum is age appropriate for each level and introduces each student to the joys of learning.
The 3 year old classes focus on theme-based units such as the farm, senses, animals, nursery rhymes, transportation, and community helpers. The 4 year old curriculum revolves around letters of the alphabet. Preschool classes participate in daily Chapel activities.
Each child is important and special at Sugar Grove Christian School. The program strives to encourage each child’s individuality while helping him experience the excitement and fulfillment of group activity.
Elementary
Sugar Grove Christian School is a private, non-profit corporation chartered under the laws of the State of Texas. It was founded in 1969 as Sharpstown Christian School and is accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools for Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. The school participates in an annual review by this accrediting body.
Academics
Standardized tests are given annually and are considered vital in measuring abilities and achievements of students, as well as in evaluating the strengths of the school. Average class size is eighteen students.
The use of the accelerated reading program by Advantage Learning Systems complements the reading program in grade K-6.
Students are involved in citywide writing contests and state academic meets. A computer lab is available on a daily basis. PE, Music and Spanish are included in the curriculum.
Chapel and Bible
Daily chapel, Bible study, and Scripture memory help develop spiritual growth. Students are involved in leading daily devotionals in the classroom and during chapel time.
Field Trips
Field trips, which supplement the curriculum, include visits to government offices, science and art museums, NASA, drama events, and other places of interest during the year.
Extracurricular Activities
Drama, gymnastics, and band are available at an additional cost. Community projects such as recyclingand benevolence are encouraged.
Uniforms
Uniforms are required. These may be purchased locally. Detailed information is available for interested parents.
Admission Requirements
Testing is required of all new students. Sugar Grove Christian School considers new students when openings are available regardless of race or religious preference.
Before and After School Care
Before school care and after school care programs are available from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. each school day.
